The incident took place in Dutchess County in the city of Poughkeepsie around 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 5 on Main Street.
According to the city of Poughkeepsie Police, officers responded to the area of 299 Main St., after receiving the call and spotted a man matching the description provided and attempted to stop him.
The suspect, identified as Kenneth Paddyfote, of Poughkeepsie, fled on foot and a foot pursuit ensued.
During the course of the pursuit, Paddyfote discarded two handguns in a storm drain before being taken into custody, police said.
Paddyfote was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with the two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. criminal possession of a weapon second-degree, and criminal possession of stolen property.
With the assistance of the Department of Public Works, crime scene technicians recovered both a loaded Ruger LCP .380 semi-automatic handgun and a loaded 9mm Smith and Wesson M&P semi-automatic handgun from the drain, police said.
The Smith and Wesson handgun was reported stolen out of North Carolina.
Paddyfote was processed at police headquarters and held pending arraignment.
